If you subscribe to The Signal we store your email address, and nothing else. No name, no company, no country. The form has one field because one field is all we need.

No Cookies, No Analytics, No Tracking

This is not a claim about intentions. It is a description of the code, and you can verify every line of it by viewing the source.

• No advertising or tracking pixelsNo Meta pixel, no LinkedIn tag, no retargeting.

Two Things We Cannot Claim Are Private

Typefaces. The fonts on this site are served by Google Fonts, which means your browser asks Google for them and Google sees your IP address in the process. We did not choose this in order to share anything with Google; it is simply how the fonts were installed. We intend to serve them from this domain instead, which removes the transfer entirely.

Server logs. Netlify records ordinary web server information when you load a page, including your IP address, roughly as every web server has since the 1990s. It is used to deliver the site and to defend it against abuse, and we do not read it. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a site that works.

Two Keys in Your Browser

The site writes two values to your browser’s local storage. Neither is an identifier, neither is sent anywhere, and neither can be used to recognise you.

• daoplay.signal.seenRemembers that you have already been shown the invitation to subscribe, so it does not appear again.
• daoplay.gloss.seenRemembers that you have already been shown how the Chinese terms work.

Clearing your browser data removes both. You will then be shown each once more, which is the only consequence.

What You Can Ask Us To Do

If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the law gives you the right to see the data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to receive a copy of it, and to object to our processing of it. In practice, for this site, that means your email address.

Write to info@daoplay.net and we will answer within a month, usually within a week. You do not need to explain why, and asking costs you nothing.

If you think we have handled your data badly and we have not put it right, you can complain to the data protection authority where you live.
